Hurricane Hanks Pub & Grub in Holmes Beach on Anna Maria Island

Hurricane Hanks Pub & Grub in Holmes Beach
Hurricane Hanks Pub & Grub in Holmes Beach

One of my favorite places for lunch, dinner, or sometimes just drinks with friends and family is at Hurricane Hanks Pub & Grub in Holmes Beach on Anna Maria Island.  This island style pub has it all, salads, sandwiches, steaks, seafood, and a full liquor bar, with bartenders who know their drink recipes.  Hurricane Hanks is in the S & S Plaza located at the intersection of Gulf Drive and Marina Drive in Holmes Beach.

Hurricane Hanks, opens for lunch every day at 11:30 a.m. the kitchen closes at 10 p.m. but the bar will stay open until about 2 a.m. When you stop in for lunch try the famous Hurricane Hanks Chicken Salad Sandwich, it’s amazing.  The Rueben sandwich, and the char-grilled Steak Sandwich are also on my must eat list for lunch or dinner.

Steak, Chicken, Ribs, Seafood, and Pasta entrees, you decide, they are all delicious.  All entrees come with your choice of rice, island fries, or a baked potato, and a Caesar Salad can be added for a $1.00 during dinner.  Make sure you ask your server or bartender about hte daily specials!

New Custom Trolleys On Anna Maria Island

New Anna Maria Island Trolley
New Anna Maria Island Trolley

The Anna Maria Island free trolley is a great way to get around Anna Maria Island, and the price is just right.  According to Manatee Area County Transit officials they will be adding 5 new island trolleys to replace the current fleet on Anna Maria Island.  Each trolley will be custom made for the conditions on Anna Maria Island like sun, sand, and sea air.

After each trolley is done being built, they are shipped to Manatee Area County Transit and will remain there until they go through state and MCAT inspections.  After each custom trolleys passes the inspections, the advertising artwork will be added.

The new island trolleys are expected to start service the beginning of September.  You can find a trolley stop almost anywhere on Anna Maria Island. The 3 main trolley stops are: Anna Maria City Pier, Manatee Public Beach, and Coquina Beach where the trolley will wait approximately three minutes before continuing the route.  Service runs from 6 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. about every 20 minutes from the north end of the Island at Anna Maria City Pier south to Coquina Beach, in Bradenton Beach.

Summer Fishing Report On Anna Maria Island

Snook Fishing
Lets Go Fishing On Anna Maria Island

Summer fishing on Anna Maria Island is as good as it gets, when you’re catching lots of fish.   Right now the snook and redfish have been biting on the edges of the mangroves and grass flats.   During the summer when temperatures are nice and hot, pre-dawn until just after sunrise tends to be the best time for fishing and it’s a little bit cooler during that time of day.

The Reports have been coming in from offshore fisherman catching mangrove snappers, red grouper, and black fin tuna in the deeper water.  Try using frozen squid and frozen sardines in water deeper than 100 feet.  Speckled trout and mangrove snapper have been feeding heavily on small shiners in 4-6 feet of water.  So get out there, grab some bait and start fishing!
